Need a step by step guide to playing a avi torrent file?

Sofi asked:

I have attempted to watch atleast 10 or more avi movies and failed every single time. I use utorrent and the downloading part is succesfully but when I go to play them I either get a don’t have the proper codecs error message or the file does not appear to contain a Video Track. Let me just say that I have probably installed every single media player possible (Windows Media Player and Windows Media Player Classic , DivX Player and Codec also I have Xvid installed) so please help I really want to be able to watch movies. I’m like pulling out my hair cause I possibly don’t know what I can be doing wrong. Do i need to convert the avi file to wmv?
I have also tryed the VCL player no effect
Ohhh another thing I had the XP Codec Pack 2.0.7.1 installed then I uninstalled it since I installed the CCCP Codec Pack PLEASE HELP I’M ABOUT TO PULL MY HAIR AND LEGS OFF(SERIOUSLY)

How to fix my Windows Media Player’s problem of sometimes not able to play AVI and MPEG files?

asked:

Can someone help me solve the problem of my Windows Media Player ? I installed XP Codec Pack 2.5.1 on my XP yesterday. The Media Player was able to play two AVI and MPEG files first before the system got disrupted when it tried to play one other AVI file. The screen got all messed up and I have to shut down the system and reboot it. Then the Media Player couldn’t play the two AVI and MPEG files altogether. In one instance, I got error code COOD1199, saying that the Media Player can’t play the file. In other instance, the display said the file is being played; but there were no audio and video outputs. It seemed fine when the Media Player tried to play some other AVI and MPEG files. I have tried to reinstall the XP Codec Pack 2.5.1. But, that isn’t working either. Can someone offer me some help ?
